A wooden office and hotel property will take place in a central location by the sea at the South Harbour of Helsinki. Katajanokan Laituri (the Pier of Katajanokka) is a construction project of Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company and the Construction Management Consultant is Haahtela. All foundation and concrete construction work will be carried out by Kreate.
The design of Katajanokan Laituri is guided by the goal of minimizing climate impacts during the building’s life cycle. A LEED Platinum environmental certificate, which takes a wide range of sustainability aspects into consideration, will be applied to the building.
Kreate’s associate company KFS Finland is using their Junttan PM25H pile driving rig for the piling work. The piles used, consist mostly of precast concrete piles along with some steel piles. Kreate’s solid know-how has been used, for example, in retaining wall and foundation solutions, which have been optimized to be more functional and cost-effective.
The building aims for carbon neutrality and will use energy solely from renewable sources. It will house the head office of Stora Enso and a hotel. The property, which will be built from solid wood elements, will also serve as a meeting place for city dwellers and service providers in one of Helsinki’s finest locations.
Kreate’s part of the project will be completed at the end of 2023, and the estimated completion of the project as a whole will be in the summer of 2024.
