Last year, Junttan introduced a patented noise-reduction solution for the pile driving rig hammers designed to support more community-conscious piling operations. Since its launch, the Junttan Noise Silencer Kit has gained strong traction among leading foundation contractors, particularly across Northern Europe, where urban projects and strict environmental frameworks require forward-thinking solutions.
Field comparison trials conducted by our valued customers on real construction sites confirm that noise perceived by the human ear can be reduced by up to 50%. The system is already helping contractors successfully operate in environments where noise limitations would otherwise restrict working hours or even prevent project execution altogether.
Since rollout, multiple Noise Silencer Kits have been tested and deployed, delivering consistent and measurable results. Contractors report improved flexibility in meeting site-specific requirements and enhanced confidence when working in proximity to residential or city-center environments.
A key advantage of this solution is its retrofit compatibility. The system can be installed on all Junttan SHK and HHK hammers, allowing both new and existing rigs to benefit from reduced sound emissions. This provides a practical, cost-effective upgrade path without replacing existing equipment.
By enabling lower sound levels, contractors can expand operational flexibility and confidently pursue projects with clearly defined environmental parameters.

Aarsleff Ground Engineering recently shared their experience trialling the Junttan Noise Silencer Kit on a live project after local residents raised concerns regarding site sound levels.
For the comparison, both rigs were Junttan PMx22 pile driver units equipped with 5t Shark hammers. To ensure reliable data, Aarsleff measured LAeq averaged over a 10-hour working period.
The results showed a consistent reduction across all measured distances:
• 5 m radius: 100.0 dB → 93.0 dB
• 10 m radius: 94.7 dB → 87.6 dB
• 15 m radius: 89.9 dB → 82.6 dB
This represents a 7 dB reduction.
As Aarsleff noted, the decibel scale is logarithmic — meaning that every 10 dB reduction is perceived as roughly halving the sound level to the human ear. A 7 dB reduction, therefore, delivers a clearly noticeable improvement in real working conditions.
For Aarsleff, the outcome supports their commitment to being a responsible neighbour while maintaining efficient project delivery.

Urban development, evolving environmental expectations, and closer collaboration with communities are shaping the future of foundation construction. The Junttan noise-reduction solution supports contractors in meeting these expectations with measurable performance and retrofit-ready flexibility.
If you want to stay at the forefront of responsible and future-ready foundation operations, equip your fleet with the Junttan Noise Silencer Kit and be prepared for the next generation of project requirements.
