Over a Two-Decade Partnership Built on Trust and Open Collaboration

The Aarsleff Group is a strongly positioned contracting group with various specialist business units, sharing one strategy and purpose: to establish tomorrow’s infrastructure and buildings, thereby creating value for society with a focus on sustainability. With annual revenue exceeding DKK 20 billion, a third from foreign operations, Aarsleff carries out projects within infrastructure, climate adaptation, the environment, energy, and construction.

Aarsleff actively participates in major infrastructure projects, including the Fehmarnbelt Link, offshore energy solutions, light rail construction, and electrified tracks, and they undertake technical installation work focusing on automation and energy optimization of buildings and industrial plants.

Aarsleff is a dedicated partner with strong working relationships. They participate actively in projects with early contractor involvement, and they collaborate according to their One Company model allowing them to manage their diverse projects efficiently. The Aarsleff Group emphasizes sustainable development, innovation, digital tools, and creating an attractive workplace where they take care of each other.

Junttan and Aarsleff, two pioneering names in the construction and foundation industries, share a long and fruitful history of collaboration. This partnership has been instrumental in pushing the boundaries of technological innovation, sustainability, and efficiency in pile driving. The cooperation started back in 2004.

“We started working with Junttan because of the broad range of equipment and good quality. Also, Junttan was willing to listen to our needs when we sought both customized solutions and standardized equipment. To Aarsleff, it is important to engage in developments where we can see that our knowledge and visions can come into play. We have a focus on working with improvements that will have a positive impact on the workday for our colleagues driving the machines,” Claus Østergaard, Technical Manager at Per Aarsleff A/S, enlightens the collaboration history.

Sustainable and Innovative Solutions

One of the most significant milestones in the cooperation has been the development of the world’s first fully battery-powered pile driving rig, Junttan PMx2e. Both companies, committed to a more sustainable future, sought to create a machine that would meet the rigorous demands of modern construction while reducing its environmental impact.

“We want to take responsibility and contribute actively to reduce the impact on our surroundings. Therefore, we actively engage in innovative development projects that strengthen our business and benefit the environment, climate, and society,” says Claus Østergaard. The result was a pile driving rig that was as capable as its diesel-powered predecessors yet significantly more sustainable.

Another standout joint development effort was the Junttan PMx26, a next-generation steep-inclination pile driving rig. This machine set a new benchmark in piling technology, capable of driving piles up to 12 meters long at inclinations of 1:3 sideways and forward and 1:2.5 backward. “This type of piling rig helps us in construction sites with cramped space conditions. Sometimes, we need to work from odd angles, and the deep inclination piling rig will sometimes be the only solution. In addition, we will be more flexible in the installation phase and can provide flexible solutions to our clients,” explains Claus Østergaard

Tailored Technology and Shared Vision

The innovative mindset of both companies has fostered a successful collaboration. “To Aarsleff, the technology of the machines is important, and it is a clear advantage for us to have the rigs developed based on our specific needs. The Junttan machines have proven reliable over the years, and we have experienced good service and open collaboration,” continues Claus Østergaard.

The over two decades-long partnership between Junttan and Aarsleff is a testament to their shared vision, marked by groundbreaking innovations in pile driving technology.
